Anambra Guber : INEC Gets Ultimatum To Withdraw APGA’s Candidate
The Alliance of Civil Society Organisation of Nigeria (ACSON), yesterday gave the Independent National Electoral Comission (INEC), a seven day ultimatum to withdraw the candidacy of Chief Willy Obiano as the candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance ( APGA) for the November governorship or risk court action.
APGA candidate for the election, Willy Obiano has been enmeshed in a double registration in the voters register, prompting the All Progressive Congress (APC) to call for Obiano’s prosecution as it was an offense against the electoral law.
Adding its voice to the call during a press conference, ACSON president, Alhaji Ali Danjuma, said it had become pertinent to ask INEC to clear the table before Obiano’s candidacy would allow a total mess of the electoral process as well as discredit the forth coming governorship election in Anambra.
The civil society organ said given the successes of the 2011 general elections, not minding its short comings, it should amount to dragging back the hands of the clock if the alleged crime against Obiano was left to go unquestioned. Especially by the civil society groups whose jobs he said it was to sanitize the polity.
