Federal High Court Sentences Kabir Sokoto To Life In Prison In Connection With Christmas Day Bombing

The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Kabir Umar, also known as Kabir Sokoto to life in prison for the bombing of Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla in Niger State. Giving the sentence, Justice Adeniyi Ademola found Umar guilty on the two-count charge against him. He said the prosecution has proved their case beyond reasonable doubt in the two-count charge, stressing that Kabir Umar is guilty as charged.

Justice Ademola held that the convict is a member of an illegal organisation, Boko Haram and facilitated terrorist acts intended to bomb the Police Headquarters in Sokoto State. He also held that Kabir Umar had information about the planning and bombing of Saint Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla on the twenty-fifth of December, 2011 but failed to disclose such to security agencies.

FRSC In Edo State, Deploys 34,000 Operatives And 484 Vehicles For Christmas and New Year Special Patrol

The Edo state Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, has deployed thirty-four thousand operatives and four hundred and eighty-four vehicles for Christmas and New Year special patrol. This is contained in a statement issued by the Corps Public Education Officer, Mr. Jonas Agwu. The statement says the exercise will begin on Thursday and last till twelfth January, 2014.

It adds that fifty-three Advance Life Support Ambulances and seventeen tow trucks consisting of eight heavy duty and nine light trucks and one hundred and two motorcycles have been deployed to support the personnel and vehicles. According to the statement, four helicopters for aerial surveillance have also been deployed to consolidate the efforts to reduce road traffic accidents during the period.

The Peoples Democratic Party PDP are now losing their members to APC because of  “division and factionalisation” within the ruling party. Among the defectors are the Chairman, House Committee on Publicity, Mr. Zakari Mohammed, from Kwara State and Dakuku Peterside from Rivers State.

Sacked AVB To Be Compensated With £4.5m

His three-year contract was terminated “by mutual consent” following the humiliating 5-0 home defeat by Liverpool. It was their worst result at White Hart Lane for 16 years and left Spurs in seventh place in the Premier League, outside the Champions League places.

The University Of Ibadan (UI), Announces Resumption Date

The registrar and secretary to the council at the UI, Mr. Olujimi Olukoyam, signed and released the official university bulletin on Friday December 6, 2013. COSON has dragged several radio and TV stations to court, demanding millions, sometimes billions of Naira in royalty.

Two days ago, they announced the ban of all Nigerian artists registered with COSON. Yesterday, the Senate joint committee on judiciary, human rights and legal matters, and drugs, narcotics and financial crimes held a public consultation on the bill, which will punish electronic fraud and cybercrime in Nigeria, reports the Will.

According to section 13 of the bill, a seven-year prison term, or a fine of NGN5 million (US$32,000) may be imposed on anyone who “intentionally propagates false information that could threaten the security of the country or that is capable of inciting the general public against the government through electronic message”, interpreted by most to refer directly to social media platforms.

At a media briefing to outline the Western Cape provincial government’s plans for a mourning period for the late former president, Ms Zille said NELSON Mandela was the greatest South African that has ever lived and "we shall never see his like again", and about half of the 160 places of tribute planned across the Western Cape would be activated from midday today Friday and the other half by tomorrow Saturday morning.

Ms Zille said the Grand Parade on Darling Street in the city centre, where Mandela made his first speech after being released from prison on Robben Island in 1990, has been designated as the primary public space where people can gather to mourn and bring flowers to commemorate his life. A number of people had started gathering around the Grand Parade on Friday morning to pay their respects to the global icon.

Breaking News: Conoil Filling Station In Abuja, on Fire Following an Explosion

An explosion rocked several buildings across from the offices of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) building in Abuja minutes ago. According to eyewitnesses, a petrol tanker discharging gasoline exploded at the Conoil gas station opposite the NNPC building in Abuja.

The huge fireball could be seen in areas around Abuja. There is no immediate report of casualty caused by the explosion.

Management Of Benin Central Hospital, Appeal To Relatives Of Accident Victims To Discharge Their Patients

Two accident victims who were taken to Central Hospital in Benin few weeks ago by unidentified persons have been left to care for themselves, as there are no nurses and other workers in the hospital occasioned by the strike by organized labour in the state.
