According to local reports in South America, the former Portugal manager was sacked after the hosts ended their World Cup campaign with two embarrassing defeats against Germany and Holland. Scolari had said he would let the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) decide his fate after the host were beaten 7-1 by eventual tournament winners Germany in the semi-final and 3-0 by Holland in the third-place playoff.
Scolari led Brazil to World Cup victory in 2002 in Japan before taking charge for a second time in December 2012, just before Brazil hosted the Confederations Cup.
Brazil won that tournament, seen as a dress rehearsal for the World Cup, but were unable to match their feat in this summer’s tournament where many were critical of the host’s rough tactics on the pitch.
