Jonathan To Set Up Committee To Compensate Victims Of Boko Haram

The president made the remarks on Sunday during the opening ceremony of Jubilee Word Festival 2013 of the Word of Life Bible Church at the Word of Life International Gospel Centre, Ajamimorha, Warri, Delta State. According to the Presiding Pastor of the ministry, Papa Ayo Oritsejafor, who took his sermon from I Samuel 13:8, November, which is significant to his family, ministry and church, symbolizes hope, adding that something positively great can still happen in the lives of individuals and the nation.

The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), who commended President Jonathan for the proposed national conference, bemoaned the  level of corruption in the country, unpaid pensions and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, among others, and urged the president to find a lasting solution to them.

He also requested the president to clear the air on conflicting reports in the national dailies on the issue of compensation for the victims of Boko Haram. President Jonathan, while responding, said although the Federal Government would not want to create a wrong impression, a committee would be set up to provide a blueprint on how victims of Boko Haram disaster, could be compensated, saying there was no way government could actually cushion the plights of the victims.

Jonathan, who asked for support from all Nigerians to bring to fruition his Transformation Agenda, described Oritsejafor as a strong president of CAN who has successfully spent 26 years in the ministry. He said his prayers had been a pillar of strength to the nation, saying that Nigeria is making steady progress.

At the event were governors of Delta State, Cross River State and Plateau State, Governors Emmanuel Uduaghan, Liyel Imoke and Jonah Jang, members of national and state assemblies, royal fathers and clerics from other religious denominations.
