The 34-year-old Spain midfielder Xavi enjoyed a glittering 14-year career with La Roja, making 133 appearances, only for his tenure to end in disappointment in Brazil. Vicente del Bosque's men were knocked out of the World Cup at the group stage, with Xavi's only appearance coming in the humiliating defeat to the Netherlands.
Another stunning display at Euro 2012 ensured his place in the Team of the Tournament for the third successive competition. He has now decided to concentrate on his club football after being persuaded to stay at Barca for one more season by new boss Luis Enrique.
He said: "I'm grateful for all those years. It has been a fantastic time. "I want to thank everyone involved in that team for the way they treated me and the respect and I could not wish for a better time as an international."
